Problem: 1- Leakage in System

When it comes to RO purifiers, oftentimes, we get complaints regarding water leakage. When there’s a lot of water around your RO, it’s time you know it’s leaking.


It could be because of a lot of issues, but mostly it is due to a loose connection of pipes.

Other than this, it is also because of damaged facet system, clogged drain line, or shifting in drain saddle.

If its air gap leak, it is usually due to the accumulation of debris in the drain.


So to check if it’s just due to connection issues, make sure to tighten the pipes. Push the tubing into their respective ports, valves, and drain saddles.

For air gap leaks, clean the drain line with the help of a pipe cleaner.

And you are good to go. If the issue still persists, call the RO technician to find out the main cause of leakage.


Problem: 2 Water wastage

No matter what your RO model is, it is going to throw out the rejected water. But a lot of water thrown out could be a sign of an issue.

This rejected water is neither fit for drinking nor for cleaning purposes.

You simply need to dispose of it. If there’s a lot day by day, you know something is wrong.


This usually happens when the RO membrane is choked.

The water isn’t purified the way it should be, which leads to RO throwing out more amount of rejected water.

And there is no definite time when this could happen.

In case your input water TDS is higher, the RO membrane would need to be replaced sooner, compared to when input water TDS is purified.


The only possible solution to this issue is changing the RO membrane.

If you are able to understand the mechanism, you can change the RO membrane yourself too.

If not consult the RO technician and get him a membrane so it will be cheaper.


Problem: 3: Bad odor

Since we are almost entering summer, it is often common to get stagnant water.

Stagnant water develops a foul smell.

Drinking water just becomes a dilemma with the foul odor, and your RO needs to be fixed.


The common cause of this also could be the presence of chlorine, which is when the filter isn’t able to filter the water properly.

When water is not filtered, the contaminants in the water rise, making it unhealthy to drink.


The best way to get rid of these contaminants is to replace the water filter.

You can either call an expert or do it by yourself. Also, make sure not to drink water left in the storage tank after two days of purification.

Storage water should be changed periodically so it does not develop chlorine in it.

RO filters need at least 40 to 60 psi (pounds per square inch)  of pressure to operate accurately. So make sure your water purifier does.

Noise from the RO water purifier is generally when the air is being pushed out of the system due to a change in the water pressure.

RO pumps have various parts that move speedily to generate water pressure to filter the water.

This movement leads to an increase in friction and makes them noisy over time. It can also lead to high vibrations.

Other than that, it could also be because of loose wires and connecting pipes between two filters.


Only a RO technician will be able to solve this issue, as you won’t always know the leading cause of the noise coming out from the RO water purifier.

So consult an expert, and you will surely be able to get rid of the strange loud noise.

Please know that you hardly ever need to replace the system. The issue can be solved with ease without doing that.


Problem: 6: System does not stop on time

We all wish we could just work 24*7, but you know what’s annoying? It’s when your RO does, and you don’t know how and when to stop it.

Well, this common issue does not in any way affect the overall water quality, but it may lead to a lot and a lot of water wastage when you just need to switch it off.


This issue happens due to various reasons and has no particular cause.

It could be due to inappropriate incoming water pressure, or failure of the auto shut-off valve, or simply due to incorrect membrane installation.


What you can do to tackle this issue is check if the valve is broken. If it is, try to change it or consult a technician to do so.

Check the pressure of the storage tank. The pressure generally needs to be between 35-40 psi. If it isn’t, you will need an expert’s help.

However, you can try replacing the valve by yourself if you have an extra one and some idea how to do it.


Problem: 7: Bad Water taste

You can try replacing a filter on regular basis and make sure you clean the storage tank and get rid of the purified water if it isn’t used for more than two days.


Problem: 8: Sour water

Sour-tasting water is highly annoying, and it may just lower down your water intake. It’s summer around here, and we know it’s the last thing you want.


This could be because of overall water quality. The lack of ions can affect the water quality.

So if your tap water is more acidic, after RO filtration, it can lower the PH causing a more salty taste or sour taste.


The one way to solve this issue is by making sure the RO water system has a remineralization stage.

This will add more minerals back to water and eventually restoring back the original taste.

If you already have a RO water filter, you can simply replace the existing water filter and add it to the system. This will eventually change the sour water taste.

Also, increasing your RO water’s pH will also give it an earthy taste.


Problem: 9: High TDS level

You will know when the water TDS is low or high. Although it’s a RO water purifier, it can too mess up the TDS count.

The change in taste of the water or feeling heavy could be few ways you can tell if the waster TDs are changed.


This usually happens due to a ruptured membrane. A fault in the valve leads to fluctuation in the filtering process, eventually resulting in a change in TDS value.


The only solution to this issue is by replacing the RO membrane and then measuring the TDs level.

Most people are familiar with this process, and it is more affordable than consulting a technician for the same.


Problem: 10: No Filtered water

Many times, there is no filtered water coming out of the tab. We see this issue in quite a lot of abundance and so thought of ending the list with this one.

The causes of this could be pretty silly, but yes, it may occur to you as well.


This could usually be because of a closed valve or even a plumbing issue rather than blaming it all always on the RO filter.

Clogged filters, however, can be the reason, but this is possible only if you ignored the slow water issue.


So for this, make sure the water input is well, and there is no plumbing issue. Also, make sure there are no curved pipes that can restrict the water flow.

If none of this is the issue, check your home’s water pressure. Even a slight change in water pressure can lead to problems in the RO system.

  1. hii i hv HUL Marvella RO +UV. while switching on it start for a second and goes off. after few secand autometically got on and again goes off within a second. this process repeated 10-12 times and finally start normally. throughout the whole process i didnt done anything other than swithing on first time. one more thing i need to add if left it switch on and when water level goes down it starts normally. what can be the possible reason. plz reply
