The refrigerator and freezer are the household appliances that are most commonly used in the kitchen. Washing these devices, first, is important for your health, and, secondly, ensures the correct work and long life of the equipment.
Let’s start with external surfaces: you can use de-fatants to wash the metal surfaces. If you have a built-in refrigerator, follow the manufacturer’s recommendations for cleaning furniture in which the refrigerator is built.
How often should I wash the fridge and freezer?
To prevent the appearance of bad smell, mold and other unpleasant surprises should completely wash the refrigerator, at least twice a year, and every month to carry out its hygienic cleaning. The same applies to the freezer: it should be defrosted regularly.
To thoroughly clean different shelves, use a small amount of warm water with drinking soda or vinegar. It is better not to use cleaning products and detergents that emit harmful substances that can get on the food. You can also use non-foam-not-forming non-abrasives for washing, which are easily washed off.
For periodic cleaning of the refrigerator:
Completely free the refrigerator from the products, throw out spoiled products or products with expired expiration date; Put the products in good condition in a thermosmeak so that they are at the right temperature while you wash the refrigerator;
Remove all the parts, shelves and other accessories removed so that you can reach all corners of the fridge. Wash the out-of-the-way parts with water and dishwasher; Wash the interior surfaces with water and vinegar (or drinking soda);
Place a napkin or kitchen towel on the bottom of the fridge, which will soak up the water that is draining while washing.
Set back all the washed and dried items.
Pay special attention to the seals: wash and dry them thoroughly, then apply a few drops of oil on them and wipe them to be soft.
For periodic freezer washing:
Completely free the freezer from the products; Put the products in a thermosum with the proper temperature; Leave the freezer door open for a few minutes to speed up the melting of the ice
Remove large chunks of ice with a special small plastic spatula. In any case, do not use sharp metal objects that can damage the paint and even spoil the details that affect the performance of the refrigerator;
Fill the container to spray with warm water and vinegar in equal ratios and spray on the inner surfaces of the freezer, then wipe them with a well-absorbing napkin; Repeat if necessary.
Dry the freezer thoroughly; Before putting frozen foods in the freezer, make sure the temperature in the freezer has reached -18C.
Try not to make sure that the food packaging and the products themselves do not come into contact with the refrigerator walls. Do not overload the refrigerator shelves and place the food in the right compartments as instructed to distribute the cold correctly.
Do not leave products on the shelves in the open form and remove products that have expired in time.
Put in the refrigerator a bowl or jar with a few tablespoons of drinking soda or a piece of cotton wool soaked in vinegar, so that the refrigerator did not appear unpleasant smells.
If you are not home for a long time, make sure that there are no “dangerous” products left in the fridge, check the shelf life of the products, throw away cans of products that were opened long ago, and wash the refrigerator and freezer.
Do not leave meat, fish or vegetables in the fridge or even freezer, so that the damage is minimal if the electricity is accidentally cut off.
