How to Effectively Clean a Washing Machine

Like any appliance, the washing machine needs regular cleaning and preventive maintenance. Most of these operations are better trusted by professionals, but some, which do not require special skills and tools, can be carried out independently. From this article, you will learn how to clean the washing machine at home and prevent it from breaking down.

Cleaning up different nodes and units

The main troubles with the drum of the washing machine – is the formation of scum and the appearance of a dead swamp smell.

The first problem is caused by the presence of dissolved calcium and magnesium salts in tap water. When heated, they break down into carbon dioxide and insoluble sediment, which gradually accumulates on the surface of the drum. Even a thin, barely noticeable plaque interferes with the machine’s operation: due to extremely low thermal conductivity, it prevents the heating of water. The washing time and electricity consumption are increasing.

The bad smell occurs due to microorganisms: colonies of bacteria or mould. The nutrient environment for them can be untold particles of powder, and lint with clothes, and crumbs of food from pockets.

Both problems have the same solution. Clean a washing machine from the smell and scum can be special means, which are sold in stores. These tools are used according to the instructions on the packaging.

This is the name of the rubber sealing ring, which seals the washing machine hatch. Its folds are an ideal place for bacteria and mould. There is stagnating water, accumulated pollution. Therefore, you need to wash the cuff much more often than all other parts – ideally after each wash. It is washed with a sponge with soapy water and then wiped dry. And if you have not traced and inside the cuff already appeared stains of mould, then use special household products for washing machines.

The drain pump filter accumulates all insoluble pollution removed from clothing: sand, hair, pet hair. Forgotten small things from pockets – for example, coins – are sent there. Sooner or later the filter is clogged and stops flowing water. To prevent this from happening, remember to clean the filter in the washing machine every three months.

The filter is located at the bottom on the front side of the case under a decorative panel. The panel can be removed in different ways. Before you clean the washing machine, specify this point in the instructions to your model. Then dim the appliance and cover the water valve. From the outside, the filter looks like a stub with a round end, which should be twisted counterclockwise. But be careful and prepare a rag: inside accumulates up to half a fine of liquid. Extracted filter carefully rinse under running water, and the hole from where it was taken, wipe dry cloth.

Do not rush to return the filter to the place: with it, it is necessary to wash away dirt and drainage hose. For this procedure, you must contact the authorized Midea Service Center.

Powder tray

Another problem place in the car. Here the water stagnates and the remnants of the detergent accumulate. Fortunately, the container is easy to remove by pulling the blocking tongue. After that, it is treated with a sponge with soapy water, and in the presence of mould stains – a chlorine-containing drug for toilets. And don’t forget to clean the niche in which the tray is installed. It is correct to repeat this procedure every 5-7 washes.

Tips for caring for the washing machine

There are also a few general recommendations to help clean the washing machine from dirt or prevent it from appearing.

  • Leave the boot hatch ajar for a few hours after washing. The airing contributes to the evaporation of water residues from the drum and cuff folds.
  • If you use dry powders, measure them strictly according to instructions, without stock. Otherwise, the surplus will accumulate inside the machine.
  • Wash at 30-40 degrees Celsius and as rarely as possible at maximum temperatures. In this mode of operation, only a small part of the salts dissolved in waterfalls into the sediment, which means that the squimp accumulates much more slowly. Things that can fall from the polluting machine lint, wash in special mesh bags.

And one more important tip last: if you are looking for serious pollution when you try to clean the washing machine inside, contact the authorised Midea Service Center. In complex cases, there is a high risk of damage to the device, and cleaning should be handled by qualified professionals. The same applies to manipulations with a tubular electric heater, or TEN: in any case do not try to extract and clean this expensive vulnerable part yourself, call the professionals.
