So here’s how you can check TDS level using a digital TDS meter.
The method to use a digital TDS meter includes two steps. You will have to check the water temperature before checking the TDS level using a digital TDS meter.
Step: 1: Check water Temperature
Switch on the digital TDS meter in order to check the water temperature. You will have a temperature button for doing this on the TDS meter.
Simply press the “TEMP” button, and you will get the water temperature reading in degrees celsius.
So now you know the water temperature, and next you have to check is the TDS level. But before that, get back to TDS mode by simply pressing the “TEMP” button again.
Step: 2 Check water TDS
So the next is to check water TDS, as now you know the water temperature. You should know that you won’t be able to check the TDS of too hot or too cold water.
Hence, it is mandatory to have water at room temperature to check the water TDS. If you have, here’s what you should do.
Remove the protective cap, and switch on the meter. Immerse the digital meter into the water up to the level indicated on the meter. It will usually be around two inches.
Gently stir the TDS meter to remove all the air bubbles and wait for few seconds to get the reading. Once the water stabilizes, long-press the hold button and remove it from the water container.
Shake it a bit to remove the excess water, and check the reading. Put the cap once done.

- Clean dust-free sterilized glass beaker
- Charged electrical conductivity meter
- Water with temperature around 250C.
An electrical conductivity meter can often release electric current into the water while measuring TDS. Make sure you have water in a separate beaker and not use the regular usage water tank for safety precautions.

Place the beaker on the flat water surface, and switch on the electrical conductivity meter to check the water TDS.
Immerse the measuring lead of the conductivity meter into the water to a suggested level.
Note down the reading you see on the meter immediately. It will take a bit longer, around 4 to 5 minutes, to get an accurate reading.
The reading you will get will be in the Micro Simens unit. Pure water most often has 0 micro simens.
Thus, you should know that the measurement will largely depend on the water quality you are measuring.
However, you should know that this method requires some mathematics to calculate the accurate water TDS.
Therefore the next step is to put the reading that you get into this formula.
TDS (in mg/litre) = KE (Co-relation factor) X EC (Conductivity)
And the answer after this calculation is the exact TDS value of the water. This might be a bit longer compared to the digital TDS water meter, but you can check accurate water TDS with either of the methods.
